"Several publishers have uncovered the previously out-of-print historical novels of G. A. Henty. These 19th-century books, aimed at young teens, enable readers to walk through exciting chapters of history from the perspective of a young person along for the adventure.

"Henty makes history fun, similar to the way a mother can make spinach taste good if it is concealed in the midst of something else. He takes his readers along for the ride in the Crusades, in Winning His Spurs; or others can join in the adventures of Hannibal [The Young Carthaginian].

"Some of Henty's novels come from the Lost Classics Book Co. in Lake Wales, Fla., started by George O'Neill when he couldn't find good literature for his own children." from the article "Opening of the American Mind" by Russell Pulliam
